Significant Leadership Gifts – February – May 2019
A heartfelt thanks to Ellen Collis and her family for their exceptional leadership gift of $1.5 million to establish a Pediatric Bridge Clinic within the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. Significant leadership gifts were also received from Beth and Mike Huber, the Engle/Clifford Family, Kohls Cares, Cathy Andreozzi, Brown Physicians Group, and the Heroes Ball fund-a-need that raised $255,000 to be used for renovations to Surgical Services on the second floor of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Collis Family Foundation
For more than four decades, Ellen Collis and her family’s tremendous generosity have played a transformational role in expanding our hospitals, growing innovative programs, and recruiting world-class physicians. But that’s not all, Ellen, a former Lifespan Board member, currently serves as Treasurer of the Rhode Island Hospital Foundation Board. The Collis Foundation’s recent leadership gift of $1.5 million to the Every Child, Every Day Campaign will support the establishment of a new Pediatric Bridge Clinic adjacent to Hasbro Children’s ED. This will provide an appropriate medical setting for behavioral health patients during assessment and while decisions are made. Thank you, Ellen and the entire Collis Family, for your outstanding partnership and commitment to our region’s children!
Beth and Mike Huber
Passionate about ensuring people have access to quality health care, Beth and Mike Huber recently made their second leadership pledge to the Every Child, Every Day Campaign! Since the Huber’s first gift to Rhode Island and Hasbro Children’s Hospitals in 2014, they have not only shared their treasure but have also jumped in with “two feet” and gotten involved. Beth currently serves as Vice Chair of the Rhode Island Hospital Foundation Board and as a member of the Campaign Cabinet. Additionally, she and Mike are planning to Co-Chair the President’s Pursuit of Excellence Dinner for a third year in a row this fall. Thank you, Beth and Mike, for being philanthropic role models and for being by our side as we advance health care in Rhode Island and beyond.
The Joan and Leonard Engle Family Foundation
Supporting kids is a family business for the Engle/Clifford Family. Not only do Jim and Rick Engle, President and Vice President of Little Kids, Inc., run a toy company known for its toys that “Make Kids Smile”, but since 1994, they have also been loyal donors to Hasbro Children’s Hospital along with their spouses, Robin and Mary, and sister Judith Engle Clifford and their families. Together, their family’s recent gift will provide resources to support both renovations and programming within Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s Medical-Psychiatric Department. Thank you, Engle/Clifford Family, for putting health care for kids as one of your top priorities!

On Wednesday, May 22 Dunkin’ held its annual Iced Coffee Day benefitting Hasbro Children’s Hospital. For every iced coffee sold at locations in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, Dunkin’ donated $1 to the hospital. Since the annual tradition started in 2010, Iced Coffee Day has raised more than $2 million for Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
On Memorial Day, Warwick Ice Cream in partnership with Hasbro Children’s Hospital launched its newest flavor called “Every Child, Every Day” after our Campaign. One dollar from every pint sold will benefit Hasbro Children’s Hospital! An all-natural chocolate ice cream with local toffee pieces and a “care”amel swirl never tasted so sweet. You can pick up your “Every Child, Every Day” pint at the Rhode Island Hospital café or your local grocery store.
This month, Shore’s Market customers will give hope to Hasbro Children’s Hospital by donating at the register. $1 and $5 sun icons can be purchased at your local Shore’s Market. Each donation helps Hasbro Children’s make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
This July, when patrons visit any one of 119 Subway locations in our region, they will be asked if they would like to donate their spare change to help change lives at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. This “Keep the Change” Round-up campaign will run from July 1-July 31.
During the month of July, McQuade’s Marketplace will be asking for $1 and $5 donations to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Locally owned and operated in Westerly, Jamestown and Mystic, CT, McQuade’s is committed to building healthier communities in our region.
Hasbro Children’s Hospital Renovations Update
With permits in hand, construction is scheduled to start this July. Our multi-phased renovations will begin within the Tomorrow Fund Clinic, just off the upper lobby, followed by the Healing Garden and then onto the clinical floors. To commemorate and celebrate this achievement, a Groundbreaking Ceremony is being planned for September 17th. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
