Program Priority: Emergency Medicine
It is essential that the Hasbro Children’s Hospital emergency department has the most skilled clinicians, using state-of-the-art equipment, delivering care in an environment that treats the most critical injuries.
Since it opened in 1994, our emergency department has seen visits more than double. The department is the front door for more than 50,000 children every year, which makes it one of the busiest in the country. The complexity of the conditions we see every day has increased, especially the influx of children with psychiatric and behavioral health needs.
Our new emergency department will provide better flow from registration to treatment, and more privacy for patients and families. We will have a new observation unit dedicated to patients who may not need admission but are not ready to go home.
Your support will help us address the huge increase of patients in need of emergency psychiatric care. We are bringing together the expertise of Hasbro Children’s and Bradley clinicians to address this important challenge occurring nationwide, and provide short-term treatment between crisis evaluation and longer-term services.
Ultimately, we want to keep children safe and out of the emergency department, so we are working in our communities and neighborhoods to offer safety education and injury prevention services through our 4-Safety Program.
